Banda Station, railway station in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan
Banda Station is an above-ground, unmanned railway station in Sagamihara, Japan, operated by JR East. It has a single island platform sitting between two tracks, reached by a small footbridge.
The station opened in 1931 under the name Kamimizo Station and was renamed Banda in 1944 when the railway came under government control. After the national rail network was broken up in 1987, it became part of JR East.
The station sits in a residential part of Sagamihara and is used mainly by students and commuters who pass through as part of their daily routine. Its plain, functional look fits naturally into the neighborhood around it.
Since no staff are on site, it is best to buy tickets in advance or use a rechargeable IC card to pass through the gates. The station has wheelchair ramps and accessible toilets, so it is easy to use for people with reduced mobility.
The station was fully rebuilt between 2017 and 2018 but kept the same plain look it had before. It is rare for such a small stop to go through a complete reconstruction while staying so visually modest.
