Yokokawa Station, Railway terminus station in Matsuida-machi, Japan
Yokokawa Station sits in Matsuida-machi, Gunma Prefecture, and serves as the western terminus of the Shinetsu Main Line. The facility has two side platforms linked by a footbridge, plus a middle track used for shunting and train storage.
The station opened in 1885 as the western terminus of the government railway running between Takasaki and Yokokawa. The line later became part of the Shinetsu Main Line and connected the area to the mountain pass leading toward Karuizawa.
The station belongs to the distinguished 100 stations of Kanto collection, representing the evolution of Japanese railway transportation through different periods.
The station handles around 200 passengers each day and is complemented by a bus connection to Karuizawa. Visitors can walk from the platform to the adjacent railway museum.
The former locomotive shed was converted into the Usui Pass Railway Heritage Park and displays historic engines from the mountain route. Several steam locomotives stand outdoors in the park, engines that once tackled the steep sections of the old pass line.
