Higashi-Kurume Station, Railway station in Higashi-Honchō, Japan
Higashi-Kurume Station is a railway station on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line with two ground-level platforms and an elevated station building that connects the east and west exits. The facility serves approximately 50,000 passengers daily and ranks among the busier stations on the network.
The station began operations on 15 April 1915 as part of the Musashino Railway's expansion between Ikebukuro and Hannō, built on land provided by local landowners. This early connection was part of the railway network development in the Tokyo region.
The station building was temporarily renamed 'Tokeisaka Station' in 2009 to honor the manga series 'Maison Ikkoku' by Rumiko Takahashi. This change shows how local places connect with popular culture and draw fans from elsewhere.
The station is accessible by train and has multiple bus connections to surrounding areas. These connections make it a practical transit point for travelers exploring other parts of the region.
In May 2010, the commercial facility 'Emio Higashi-Kurume' opened at the former north exit and transformed the location into a shopping destination. This modern complex blends daily commuter traffic with retail and leisure activities.
