Mount Moiwa Ropeway

Mount Moiwa Ropeway connects a base station to a summit viewing area that sits about 531 meters above sea level. The route travels roughly 1,200 meters across the mountain slopes.

This cable system opened in 1958 as the first mechanical way to reach the mountain top. Its construction transformed the peak into an accessible destination for visitors.

The mountain carries a name from the Ainu language, reflecting the heritage of the region's original inhabitants. For them, this location held significance as a vantage point for observing the lands below.

On clear days, visitors can see Sapporo city and the surrounding bay from the top. There are viewing platforms and dining options at the summit where you can rest and enjoy food.

At the top sits a bell where visitors attach padlocks carrying personal messages and wishes. This ritual has made the summit a place where people leave their thoughts and hopes for others to see.
