Nishonoseki Stable, Sumo training facility in Inashiki, Japan
The facility is a sumo training hall near Hitachino-Ushiku Station where around seventeen wrestlers live and work under the direction of a former yokozuna. The building provides practice areas, living quarters and facilities for preparing for nationwide tournaments in Japanese sumo.
The hall opened in August 2021 and received its final name after the Japan Sumo Association gave approval in January 2022. The renaming followed the traditional process for transferring stable rights between trainers.
The wrestlers adopt ring names that include the character Sato, linking them to the founder. This naming practice connects each fighter symbolically to his teacher and the line of earlier champions.
Morning practice sessions take place daily in the early hours and public visits require advance arrangement. Access is easiest by train to Hitachino-Ushiku, followed by a short walk to the building.
In May 2024, a wrestler from this hall claimed the first top division title just months after entering professional ranks. This rapid rise is noted as unusual in a sport that typically demands years of preparation.
