Shikama Station, railway station in Himeji, Hyogo prefecture, Japan
Shikama Station is a railway station in Himeji operated by Sanyo Electric Railway, serving two lines: the Main Line and the Aboshi Line, where it functions as the terminal stop. The simple building features a ground-level platform with three tracks, accessed from the entrance via a footbridge.
The station opened in 1923 as Shikamamachi Station and underwent several name changes before receiving its current name, Shikama Station, in 1991. A new entrance was added in 2022 to improve accessibility and comfort for travelers.
The station is unattended, so visitors should check train schedules or use automated help systems to navigate. From here you can easily reach different parts of the city and nearby places like the port, with local trains that stop frequently and faster services to larger cities.
Himeji Port lies just a 25-minute walk away and offers an entirely different side of the city with ferries to nearby islands and quiet coastal walks. This easy connection from the station makes it simple to go from city transit to peaceful waters and island views.
