Miura Hills, Rolling hills in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan
Miura Hills is a rolling hill range covering the southern part of the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. The area sits between Tokyo Bay to the north and Sagami Bay to the south, with green slopes dropping down toward the sea on both sides.
The Miura Peninsula has been inhabited and farmed for centuries, and its hills were used to watch over sea routes between Tokyo Bay and Sagami Bay. Over time, the area shifted from a strategic lookout to the mix of farmland and open terrain it is today.
Farmers here maintain traditional growing methods for vegetables and fruits that have been passed down through generations. This agricultural practice shapes how the landscape looks and is used today.
The area is easy to reach by train from Tokyo, making a day trip a reasonable option. Wear sturdy shoes, as the paths can get slippery after rain, which is common throughout the year.
Mount Ogusu, the high point of this hill range, is one of the few spots where you can see Mount Fuji, Tokyo Bay, and Sagami Bay all at once on a clear day. Few other places in the region bring together these three views from a single location.
