Take Yama, Mountain summit in Yokosuka, Japan
Take Yama is a hill in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, with a summit sitting at around 650 feet (200 meters), from which both Tokyo Bay and parts of the Pacific Ocean are visible. Several hiking trails lead to the top, starting from different access points around the hill.
Take Yama has been a geographical reference point in the area since Yokosuka grew into a major naval port in the late 1800s. Sailors and local residents used the summit as a natural landmark to orient themselves across the bay.
The trails on Take Yama are used regularly by local walkers and families throughout the year, making the summit a familiar outdoor destination in the area. At the viewpoints, many people stop to look out over the bay, giving the place a relaxed and everyday feel.
The trails are clearly marked, and visitors can choose their starting point depending on where they are coming from in town. Sturdy footwear and enough water are a good idea, as some sections of the path can be steep.
From certain spots near the top, visitors can see Tokyo Bay on one side and the open Pacific Ocean on the other at the same time. This double view is geographically rare and often surprises people who were only expecting one of the two.
