Arasaki, Coastal park in Yokosuka, Japan

Arasaki is a coastal park on the Miura Peninsula with steep cliffs that overlook Sagami Bay and feature distinctive rock formations throughout. The grounds include walking paths that wind through the natural landscape and provide access to different viewpoints.

A gun battery was built at this location during the late Edo period when Commodore Perry's ships approached Japanese waters and prompted military preparations. This fortification reflects how the region strengthened its defenses in response to foreign presence.

The park features a dedicated plaza for Hamayu flowers, a native species that grows throughout the area and holds significance in local tradition. This garden shows how the region values its natural heritage and the plants that belong to this coastal landscape.

The park is free to visit and has parking for approximately 90 vehicles with different rates for weekdays and weekends. The paths are clearly marked and work well for a daytime visit.

The Bentenjima rock formation and Jumonji-do sea cave display natural erosion patterns created by millions of years of wave action. These geological features reveal how the coastal landscape continues to be shaped by water and time.
