Crossland Oyabe, Modern skyscraper in Oyabe, Japan
Crossland Oyabe is a tower in the city of Oyabe, in Toyama Prefecture, reaching 118 meters tall. It brings together a concert hall, a museum, an observation deck, and an outdoor plaza within one complex.
The tower was built in the 1990s as part of a national government program aimed at encouraging exchange between different regions of Japan. It was one of several similar centers created around the same time across the country.
The name Crossland refers to the crossing of two national roads that meet right next to the building. Visitors can see this intersection clearly from the observation deck at the top.
The site sits on the edge of Oyabe and is most easily reached by car, with parking available on the grounds. Those who want to see all areas should allow enough time, as the indoor and outdoor sections each follow their own paths.
This site sits at one of only two points in Japan where two national roads cross each other at a right angle. That road configuration was actually the reason this location was chosen for the project.
