Nanatsumori Kofun Cluster

The Nanatsumori Kofun Cluster consists of four ancient burial mounds located on a plateau in Sugao district. Two of these mounds have a circular shape while the other two feature a distinctive keyhole form, all constructed from earth and covered with stone.

These burial mounds date to the Kofun period and served as tombs for prominent individuals. Excavations during the 1920s revealed significant finds including bronze mirrors, curved jewels, and rare jade bracelets from within the burial chambers.

The burial mounds demonstrate the architectural methods of the period through their earthwork construction and stone coverings called fukiishi.

The site sits near National Route 57 and is easily accessible by vehicle. Wear sturdy shoes as the terrain is uneven and exploring the area requires some walking.

The area around the mounds displays approximately 200,000 red spider lilies during blooming season. This floral abundance transforms the site into a memorable place where nature and history intersect.
