Port of Mitajiri-Nakanoseki spreads along the Seto Inland Sea coast, forming a natural harbor between the Edomari Peninsula and Mukoshima Island. The facility accommodates vessels up to 200 meters long with a draft of 9.3 meters and operates gantry cranes for cargo handling.
The port grew into a major maritime facility, especially through its specialized Nakanoseki No.3 wharf which became a central point for vehicle exports. This specialization shaped how the port functions in modern shipping operations.
The port sits near Hofu Tenmangu Shrine, built in 904 as Japan's first Tenman-gu shrine dedicated to the scholar Michizane Sugawara. This sacred site shapes the region's identity and reflects how maritime activity coexists with spiritual heritage in the area.
Keep in mind this is an active commercial port where large ships and vehicles move constantly throughout the day. The best views come from elevated spots on land where you can watch the harbor operations without interfering with port activities.
