Kyōto Furitsu Miyazu Kōtō Gakkō, Highschool in Japan
Kyōto Furitsu Miyazu Kōtō Gakkō was a public high school in Miyazu with a campus of simple, functional buildings, bright classrooms, and dedicated facilities for its architecture program. The school offered two main academic paths: a regular course and a specialized architecture track that was the only one of its kind in the entire prefecture.
The school was established in 1903 as Kyoto Prefectural Fourth Junior High School, the fourth such institution created by the prefecture. Over more than a century, it underwent multiple name changes and reorganizations, particularly after World War II when it expanded and integrated a girls' high school section, before finally closing in 2023.
The school brought together students from different parts of Miyazu and nearby areas who studied and supported each other. School events like sports days and cultural festivals created moments when the community gathered to celebrate, share food, and cheer for their teams.
The school was located about a quarter mile from the train station and easily accessible on foot, making it convenient for students traveling from different parts of the city and surrounding countryside. The campus sat in a quiet area surrounded by nature, which made it a calm setting for studies.
The school campus sat very close to the famous Amanohashidate, a long sandbar stretching across the bay, and students could see this remarkable natural feature from the school grounds or nearby spots. This geographic proximity made studying there a special experience surrounded by one of the region's most notable landmarks.
