Sata physic gardens

Sata Physic Garden is a historic medicinal plant garden in Kagoshima Prefecture organized by therapeutic properties and botanical categories. The site displayed both native Japanese and international species arranged to support research and learning.

The garden was founded in 1971 and served as a research center for medicinal plants. It closed in 2006 after contributing significantly to botanical knowledge in Japan.

The garden displays plants central to Japanese healing practices, showing how local remedies relied on specific species passed down through generations. Visitors can observe which plants mattered most for traditional preparations.

The site is located in a quiet area of Kagoshima Prefecture, and visitors should wear proper walking shoes for the garden paths. The terrain is flat and easy to navigate, though shade is limited, so a hat is advisable.

The garden combined both Japanese and international plant species, which was unusual for research institutions in that region. This mixed collection allowed comparisons between different healing traditions from around the world.
