Chiba Park, Urban park in Benten, Chiba, Japan.
Chiba Park is an urban park in the Benten district of Chiba, with walking paths, sports facilities, playgrounds, and a central pond where rowboats can be rented. The grounds are flat and open, with separate areas set aside for different activities so that families, athletes, and casual walkers all find their own space.
The park opened in 1946 as a public space for the people of Chiba in the years after the war. It was expanded in 1957 as the city grew and more residents needed places to spend time outdoors.
In spring, cherry trees draw crowds of locals who gather under the blossoms to picnic and spend time outdoors together. In early summer, lotus flowers open over the pond, and people slow their pace to watch them from the nearby paths.
The park is a short walk from Chibakoen Station on the Urban Monorail, and also reachable on foot from Chiba Station. The paths are flat and wide, so moving around is easy regardless of pace or mobility.
The Water Plaza has an underground system that sends water up through the ground, turning the paved surface into a play area where children run through the jets in summer. Most visitors only notice it when they see wet footprints leading toward the center of what looks like an ordinary square.
