Kinosaki Ropeway

The Kinosaki Ropeway ascends from the base station to the mountain summit, offering views of surrounding peaks and the coastline during the journey. The cable cars operate on a regular schedule throughout the day, connecting the thermal resort town to the elevated viewpoint area.

The ropeway began operations in 1963, introducing mechanized mountain access to the thermal resort area for the first time. This innovation helped revitalize the town during the post-war period and shaped its development as a destination.

The ropeway connects visitors to viewpoints where traditional Japanese hot spring buildings create a distinctive pattern across the valley floor. From above, you can see how the resort has grown around the natural thermal resources that define the region.

Visitors can board the ropeway during operating hours, with frequent departures allowing flexible arrival times throughout the day. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended since the upper station connects to trails and viewpoint areas for exploration.

The ropeway provides uncommon views of seven distinct hot spring buildings scattered throughout the valley, each displaying different architectural traditions. From the cable car, you notice how each structure maintains its own character and design philosophy.
