Horie Orgel Museum

The Horie Orgel Museum is a music museum in Kurakuen that displays about 330 music boxes and automated musical instruments from around the world. The collection spans from simple mechanical players to complex machines, showing how these devices developed over many decades.

The museum was founded in 1993 by collector Mitsuo Horie, who spent decades gathering these instruments from different sources. The location in Kurakuen has roots in Japan's past, as the land was once quarried for stone used in major castle reconstruction projects.

The collection reflects how automated musical instruments developed across different regions and time periods, showing the creativity of makers worldwide. You can observe how each culture adapted mechanical music to its own tastes and traditions.
