Okutono Jin'ya

Okutono Jin'ya, Historical government outpost in Okazaki, Japan

Okutono Jin'ya is an administrative complex featuring white earthen walls and samurai residences positioned on sloped terrain. The main buildings include the Kinbotei structure and traditional gardens with water features and mature vegetation.

This site was established in 1711 and served as the administrative center for the Ogyu-Matsudaira family during the Edo period. It became one of many such outposts where regional leaders managed territory under centralized authority.

The site contains spaces dedicated to the feudal rulers of the Okutono Domain, where visitors can see how the leadership lived and made decisions. The tea ceremony room shows traditions that were part of daily life for the governing families of this region.

The location is easily reached from Okazaki and welcomes visitors throughout the day. The site provides parking and plenty of space to explore the buildings and gardens at your own pace.

The gardens display blooming flowers across different seasons, creating a changing landscape that reflects traditional Japanese design principles. Visitors often miss how these seasonal shifts connect the site to the annual rhythms that shaped life here.
