Fujikawa craft park, Roadside station and craft center in Minobu, Japan
Fujikawa Craft Park is a large outdoor complex in Minobu, Yamanashi, combining gardens, forested areas, and leisure facilities. The site also has barbecue areas, tennis courts, river canoeing, and museums and workshops dedicated to traditional Japanese crafts.
The site opened in 1989 as a roadside facility along a prefectural road in Yamanashi. From the start, it was planned to bring together natural spaces and local craft traditions for travelers passing through the area.
The Kirie Art Museum inside the park shows traditional Japanese paper-cutting art, where paper is turned into detailed images by hand. At the Nishijima Workshop, visitors can try making washi paper using methods passed down in this region for centuries.
The grounds have ample parking and can be walked freely during the day, while indoor attractions have their own opening times. The paths are easy to follow on foot, and picnic and grilling areas allow for a longer stay.
The park has a rose garden that blooms twice a year, showing a wide range of varieties. Next to it, a fountain with many nozzles shoots water in patterns that change unpredictably, creating surprising moments as you walk past.
