Tsuneyama Castle is a mountain fortress in Okayama Prefecture featuring multiple fortified sections arranged in an L-shape across the slope. The site consists of several connected defensive areas that follow the natural contours of the ridge.
Construction took place between 1469 and 1487 during the Bunmei period, establishing it as a stronghold for the Ueno clan. The fortress fell to Mori forces in 1575, marking a turning point in its history.
The grounds hold graves honoring Lady Tsuru and the women who defended the fortress during its final moments. This memorial reflects how the site remains connected to local memory and the people who fought there.
The site is accessible by car with parking available near the northern bailey for visitor convenience. From there, walking paths connect the main areas of the ruins for easy exploration.
From the main bailey, views extend to the Seto Inland Sea across the landscape. The site also contains a historical well connected to the fortress's final moments.
