Kawashima Castle

Kawashima Castle is a Japanese castle in Yoshinogawa built on a hill overlooking the Yoshino River. The concrete keep was constructed in 1981 and features modern interior facilities for visitor comfort.

The original castle was founded in 1573 by Kawashima Koretada and later became part of a larger network under Hachisuka Iemasa's control. It was incorporated into the regional Nine Castles of Awa and served as an important military outpost.

The top floor displays replicas of samurai armor and traditional clothing from the feudal period. These objects help visitors understand how warriors and nobility dressed and presented themselves in that era.

The castle sits about ten minutes walk from JR Awakawashima Station on the Tokushima Line and is easily accessible by foot. The grounds offer free entry, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace.

The fortress was garrisoned with around 300 soldiers under Hayashi Tadakatsu's command to monitor the western territories. This military strength reveals how strategically important this location was during regional conflicts.
