Former Tōō Gijuku Missionary House, Historic house from 1903 in Shimoshirogane-chō, Japan
The Former Tōō Gijuku Missionary House features a Western-style two-story wood-frame construction with multiple rooms and traditional fireplaces in each chamber.
Commissioned by Toogijuku High School in 1903, this residence housed foreign teachers who introduced Western educational methods to Japanese students during the Meiji period.
The building reflects the integration of Western architectural elements into Japanese construction methods, marking a period of significant educational transformation in Aomori Prefecture.
Located near the Former Hirosaki City Library, this historical structure opens daily from 9 AM to 5 PM and offers free admission to all visitors.
The house contains period furnishings and has transformed its original parlor and dining areas into tea rooms where visitors can experience historical surroundings.
