Ishiba Family Residence, Historic merchant residence in Kamenokomachi, Japan
The Ishiba Family Residence maintains its original wooden structure with traditional pillars and an open hearth in the main living area.
Built around 1800, this property belonged to generations of merchant families named Seibei who specialized in selling various goods during the Edo period.
The residence incorporates traditional Japanese architectural elements and functions as both a living space and a local brewery for sake production.
Located at 88 Kamenoko-machi, the residence welcomes visitors daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with an entrance fee of 100 yen for adults.
The residence contains one of the region's few remaining examples of an irori, a traditional sunken hearth used for cooking in historical Japanese homes.
