Honda R&D, Research institute in Saitama, Japan
Honda R&D is a research institute in Saitama prefecture, Japan, dedicated to developing automotive and motorcycle systems. The facility includes several divisions, with separate areas for vehicles, two-wheelers, and innovative technologies focused on independent research.
The research facility was spun off from Honda Motor in July 1960 as an independent company, with shares held by Soichiro Honda and Takeo Fujisawa. Construction of the Murayama test site along Arakawa River two years earlier marked the start of intensive testing activity on its own grounds.
The research center maintains separate design divisions for motorcycles, automobiles, and innovative products that support daily transportation needs in Japan.
The test track area in Murayama offers engineers extended space for vehicle trials and safety evaluation. The compound is oriented toward technical staff and sits away from public access, so visits are typically not possible.
The Murayama test course along Arakawa was the first high-speed track in Japan, built in 1958 for extended car testing. This pioneering setup set new standards for vehicle trials in the country.
