Yanagisawa Bunko

Yanagisawa Bunko is a family archive and special library housed within the grounds of Kōriyama Castle in Nara Prefecture. The collection holds thousands of historical documents spanning several centuries, including calligraphy and poetry pieces.

The archive was founded in 1960 and opened to the public in 1961 to preserve the heritage of the Yanagisawa feudal clan. Its collections document the family's life and work across multiple generations.

The collection bears the Yanagisawa family name, preserving their personal writings and objects from centuries past. Walking through the exhibitions, you encounter details of how this powerful family lived and thought.

The institution is open daily except Mondays, with rotating exhibitions showing items from the collection. It helps to check ahead which materials are currently on display.

Many visitors overlook that the collection includes works created by Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, a major leader during the Edo period. These personal items reveal the family's close connections to the political powers of that era.
