Yokote Park

Yokote Park is a public green space with a reconstructed four-story castle tower that offers views across the city toward Mount Chokai. The grounds also include a museum housed within the tower structure, where historical objects and artwork span multiple floors.

A fortress was established in 1550 by the Onodera clan and served as a strategic military post in the region for centuries. It was destroyed during the Boshin War in 1868, marking the end of Japan's feudal period in this area.

The name reflects the fortress that once dominated this location and shaped the region's identity. Visitors can see artwork and everyday objects displayed indoors that show how people lived through different periods in Yokote.

The park is easily reachable by bus in about 10 minutes from Yokote Station, making it a convenient stop on a day trip. The climb up the tower stairs is straightforward, though the stairways are narrow and winter conditions can make the paths slippery.

During winter months, the grounds become the setting for the Yokote Snow Festival featuring handcrafted snow houses called Kamakura. These temporary structures create a magical winter experience that draws visitors from across the region during the cold season.
