Yodogawa Bridge, Railway bridge in Higashiyodogawa-ku, Japan.
Yodogawa Bridge is a railway bridge in Osaka that crosses the Yodo River, connecting Higashiyodogawa-ku and Miyakojima Ward on two tracks. The structure is a steel frame design that runs nearly the full width of the river.
The bridge was built in 1925 by the Ministry of Railways to connect freight traffic between Suita and eastern Osaka. In 2010, major work transformed it from a single-track line with pedestrian access into a two-track railway crossing.
The bridge draws railway fans who come to the riverbanks to watch trains cross the water at different times of day. The surrounding area on both banks is open and easy to walk along, making it a natural stop for anyone passing through the neighborhood.
The riverbanks on both sides of the bridge offer open views of the crossing and are easy to walk along. The bridge itself is an active railway line and is not open to the public, so observation is done from the ground level near the water.
Near Higashi-Yodogawa Station, the line uses a wye junction, a triangular track arrangement that allows trains to reverse direction without a turntable. This kind of layout is rarely seen in an urban area and makes the local rail geometry unusual compared to most city crossings.
