Miyakojima Ward

Miyakojima Ward is an administrative division in northern Osaka that spreads across residential neighborhoods interspersed with parks, community centers, and small local businesses. The area runs along the banks of the Yodogawa River, blending residential sections with public spaces where people gather and spend time.

The ward took shape in 1943 through administrative reorganization as Osaka underwent municipal expansion and population growth in that era. This restructuring was part of broader changes that reflected the rapid development occurring in northern areas of the city.

The ward preserves the legacy of composer Koichi Kishi through musical chimes at the ward office, which regularly play his composition Taketori Monogatari. This musical tribute remains woven into the daily experience of people passing through the administrative center.

Multiple railway stations throughout the ward connect visitors to central Osaka, with Kyobashi Station serving as a major transportation hub for the area. Good train connections make it easy to navigate the ward and reach other parts of the city from here.

The Fujita Museum houses the Murasaki Shikibu Nikki Ekotoba manuscript among its collection of important cultural treasures and national heritage items. This substantial collection offers a window into cultural works that few other places nearby can provide.
