Kawasaki Bridge, Pedestrian bridge in Kita-ku and Miyakojima-ku, Japan
Kawasaki Bridge is a footbridge that crosses the Okawa River, connecting Nakanoshima Park with the neighborhoods on either side. The structure uses cable-stayed design to span the water while maintaining a narrow pedestrian pathway.
The site served as a crossing point between Bizento and Kawasaki during the Edo period, with a toll bridge established in 1877. The current structure replaced this earlier crossing decades later.
The bridge provides viewing points for the annual Tenjin Festival boat procession and the Mint's Cherry Blossom celebration during spring seasons.
The bridge is easily accessible on foot from Temmabashi Station on the Keihan Main Line. From here you can explore the riverside area and access nearby parks on both sides.
The bridge received the Tanaka Prize from the Japan Society of Civil Engineers in 1978 when it was completed. This award recognized the quality of its engineering and design.
