Tenma Bridge, Steel girder bridge in central Osaka, Japan
Tenma Bridge is a steel girder bridge spanning the Okawa River and connecting the districts of Kita-ku and Chūō-ku. The roadway measures 19 meters wide and stretches across 151 meters.
This bridge was built in 1935, replacing earlier wooden structures that crossed the river. It was constructed using German steel while its railings and lighting incorporated Japanese design elements.
This is one of fifty bridges in Naniwa, continuing a heritage that goes back centuries. It remains woven into daily life, connecting people across the river just as it has for decades.
The bridge sits near Tenma Bridge station, served by both the Keihan Main Line and Osaka Metro Tanimachi Line. You can easily reach it by public transport and walk across on foot during the day.
The main arch spans 61 meters with clean lines that resemble a bird in flight. As darkness falls, lighting illuminates the bridge and makes it stand out against the night sky.
