Kema Sakuranomiya Park, Riverside park in Miyakojima, Japan

Kema Sakuranomiya Park stretches along the Okawa River for several kilometers and is lined with thousands of cherry trees that bloom with pink flowers in spring. The park forms a green corridor with maintained pathways and open spaces that run alongside the river.

The park emerged during the Meiji period as an urban project to transform a section of the river into public recreation space. The cherry trees were planted later to create a popular destination for Osaka's growing population.

During cherry blossom season, families and friends gather beneath the flowering trees for hanami celebrations, spreading picnics and enjoying traditional food in the open air. These gatherings transform the park into a social hub where locals mark the arrival of spring together.

The park is easily reached by taking the JR Osaka Loop Line to Sakuranomiya Station, with the entrance close to the riverside. It is best visited during daytime hours when the areas are well lit and there is plenty of space to stroll or rest.

River boats travel through the park, allowing passengers to view the flowering trees from the water. This perspective offers a different experience compared to walking along the banks.
