Watarase Bridge

Watarase Bridge, Steel bridge in Ashikaga, Japan.

Watarase Bridge is a steel structure crossing the Watarase River with six large truss spans that together stretch 243 meters. The roadway is 5.5 meters wide and carries traffic across the water.

A wooden bridge that once stood here was replaced in 1934 with the current steel structure to meet transportation and military needs. This replacement marked an important moment in the area's infrastructure development.

A stone monument on the bridge plays a melody from a popular 1990s song that made this place famous throughout the country. The location has become meaningful to both locals and visitors through this connection to music and popular culture.

This bridge stands about 500 meters west of Ashikagashi Station and is easy to reach on foot from the train. A separate path for pedestrians and cyclists runs beside the main roadway, providing a safe way to cross.

A song released in 1993 made this place famous across the country and transformed it from a local structure into a popular destination. The bridge owes much of its status as a cultural landmark to this musical connection.
