Sagiridai, Mountain observatory in Yufu, Japan

Sagiridai is a scenic viewpoint in the Yufu mountains at about 680 meters elevation, where visitors can look out over the Yufuin Basin and Mount Yufu. The facility includes parking, restrooms, and a small shop offering local products for those who stop by.

Sagiridai stands beside the Yamanami Highway on the route from Beppu to Yufuin, in the Nonoso area of Yufuin-cho Kawakami, Yufu. The site is a roadside observation point at 680 m, roughly 230 m above the Yufuin basin floor at about 450 m. It is known for the morning mist that fills the basin and for its sunrise and sunset views, and the annual Gyu-kui zekkyo taikai shouting contest is held near the viewpoint.

Sagiridai sits beside the Yamanami Highway on the road from Beppu to Yufuin, and its name refers to the morning mist (sagiri) that fills the basin below. Near the viewpoint the Ushikui Zekkyō Taikai, a shouting contest, is held every year.

The best time to visit is early morning when fog formation over the valley is most active. Sturdy footwear is recommended as paths can be uneven depending on weather, and the site is accessible year-round.
