Shiretoko World Heritage Conservation Center, Visitor center and museum in Utoro, Shari district, Japan.
The Shiretoko World Heritage Conservation Center features exhibits of animal photographs, models, and natural specimens including brown bear claws and footprint displays.
The center opened on April 19, 2009, under the Japanese Ministry of Environment to protect and educate visitors about the Shiretoko Peninsula's natural heritage.
The facility provides educational programs about local wildlife, including endangered species such as Blakiston's fish-owls, Steller's sea eagles, and white-tailed eagles.
The center operates from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM between April and October, and 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM from October to April, with free admission.
Interactive tablets with augmented reality technology allow visitors to observe virtual representations of local animals responding to human movements.
