Oigami Onsen, building in Gunma Prefecture, Japan
Oigami Onsen is a hot spring area nestled in the mountains of Gunma Prefecture near the Katashina River, surrounded by forest. The location features traditional inns with simple bathing facilities offering nature views, as well as a public bathhouse open to day visitors and overnight guests alike.
Oigami Onsen has served as a bathing destination for generations, with visitors long drawn to the mineral-rich waters for their therapeutic properties. This healing tradition established over centuries continues to define the area today as a place of renewal and rest.
The name Oigami reflects the local tradition of natural hot spring bathing passed down through generations. Visitors can observe how the baths remain woven into daily life, with simple rooms where locals and travelers gather, bathe, and naturally interact together.
Visitors can reach the area by bus from Numata Station or by car via the nearby expressway, with the bus journey taking roughly one hour. Most bathing facilities are open during daytime hours and welcome day visitors with day-use passes readily available.
A special ticketing system called the 'yu-meguri tegata' allows visitors to visit three different bathing facilities in the area at a discounted rate. This pass system lets travelers sample multiple baths, each with its own distinct character, during a single visit.
