Chigasaki Castle

Chigasaki Castle is a park built on the site of a medieval fortress with visible earthen fortifications and water channels. The grounds preserve the layout of different sections and show the structural remains from its original design.

The fortress developed between the late 14th and early 15th centuries as a defensive stronghold for regional powers. Despite its military purpose, no recorded battles took place within these grounds.

The layout reflects how medieval castles were organized into separate areas for different purposes and defenses. Walking through the baileys today shows how people structured their fortified spaces.

The park is easily reached by public transportation and situated near a train station. The ground has slopes and stairs between different levels, so comfortable walking shoes are helpful.

A deep dry moat separating the central and western sections remains visible and originally extended about 2 meters underground. This feature offers a rare look at how water defenses were once engineered at this location.
