Yakuou-ji, Buddhist temple in Minami, Japan.

Yakuou-ji temple stands at the base of Mount Io, featuring traditional wooden structures, stone lanterns, and gardens that extend across the grounds.

Founded in the early 8th century under Emperor Shomu's decree, the temple experienced a significant fire in 1188, leading to its reconstruction by Emperor Go-Daigo.

The temple holds position 23 on the Shikoku Pilgrimage circuit of 88 temples, where visitors practice sutra writing and participate in Zen meditation.

Located 0.4 kilometers from JR Hiwasa Station, the temple provides free parking for 350 vehicles and offers vegetarian Buddhist cuisine to visitors.

The temple houses two Buddha of Medicine statues, with one facing backward in its cabinet, earning the nickname 'Backward-facing Yakushi'.
