Karuizawa Prince Hotel Ski Resort, Ski resort in Karuizawa, Japan.
Karuizawa Prince Hotel Ski Resort is a ski resort at the foot of Mount Asama in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture. It has several slopes of varying difficulty served by a network of lifts that connect the different parts of the terrain.
The resort opened in 1973, making it one of the earlier organized ski areas in the Nagano region. Over the following decades, its lift infrastructure was gradually updated and its facilities expanded.
The resort is easy to reach from Tokyo by Shinkansen, which makes it popular with city residents looking for a winter day trip. Many visitors combine skiing with a stroll through the nearby Karuizawa shopping area after their time on the slopes.
The resort has its own parking and offers equipment rental and lessons for all levels on site. On weekends and during snowfall, lift queues can be longer, so arriving early in the morning is a good idea.
Mount Asama, at the foot of which the resort sits, is one of the most active volcanoes in Japan and is continuously monitored by authorities. On a clear day, its crater is visible from the upper slopes.
