Kinshi Park, Urban park in Sumida City, Japan
Kinshi Park is an urban park in Sumida featuring broad grass areas, tree-lined paths, and several sports facilities. It includes an 850-meter running track and tennis courts that serve the local community.
The park was founded in 1928 as part of rebuilding efforts following the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. Its creation provided green space to a recovering city during the reconstruction period.
The park becomes a gathering place in spring when cherry blossoms bloom and people arrive to celebrate and spend time outdoors together. The lit trees and music performances during this season create a social feeling that draws residents from across the neighborhood.
The park sits about 250 meters from Kinshicho Station, accessible via the Hanzomon and Chuo-Sobu Lines, making it easy to reach by train. The paths are wide and open, making it simple to walk around and find different areas.
Within the park grounds stands a small shrine dedicated to a fertility deity that has occupied this same location for many generations before the park was built. This sacred site was there long before the modern green space was created.
