Prada Aoyama, Retail space in Aoyama district, Tokyo, Japan
Prada Aoyama is a retail building in Tokyo's upscale Aoyama district with six floors clad in characteristic diamond-shaped glass panels. The facade creates multiple reflections of the surroundings through its specially designed panels, making the surface appear visually dynamic.
The building was designed by Herzog & de Meuron in 2003 as part of Prada's Epicenter Store initiative to reshape retail architecture. This project marked a turning point in how international luxury brands conceive their physical spaces as works of art.
The building reflects the luxury character of Tokyo's Aoyama district, where upscale brands cluster and affluent shoppers gather. The space shows how European design concepts integrate into Japanese urban life.
The building is most easily reached via Omotesando Station, served by three metro lines. Visitors should expect the location to be crowded in the afternoon and on weekends.
Inside, snorkel installations integrate interactive elements into the sales space, playfully transforming the shopping experience. Some fitting rooms have special audio devices that tell stories during the try-on process.
