The lighthouse began operations on December 2, 1999, serving as a critical navigation aid for vessels entering the northern section of Sakata Port.
The lighthouse represents the maritime heritage of Yamagata Prefecture, where fishing communities maintain traditional connections to the sea.
Visitors can access the observation deck during daytime hours, with free parking facilities available near the lighthouse grounds.
The lighthouse emits a single white flash every 8 seconds with a luminous intensity of 300,000 candelas, visible up to 17.5 nautical miles.
