Tsurigane Dōmon, Sea cave in Kami, Japan.
Tsurigane Dōmon is a sea cave in Kami with a distinctive bell-shaped entrance carved into tall coastal cliffs. Inside, the rock walls rise high above the water, creating a spacious chamber where you can see layers of stone formed over millions of years.
The cave formed through countless years of waves washing against the coastal rock, gradually carving out this massive chamber. The process shaped much of the San'in coastline as it appears today.
Local fishermen guide visitors through the cave by boat, sharing knowledge of marine traditions and geological formations along the San'in coast.
You can only reach this cave by boat, as it sits directly above the water with no land access. Plan your visit considering sea conditions, as rough waves can make boat travel unsafe.
The cave interior creates distinct light reflections on the water surface, resulting from sunlight entering through the natural rock opening.
