Abuyama Kofun, Ancient burial mound in Takatsuki, Japan
The circular burial mound, measuring 82 meters in diameter, stands at the top of Mount Abu between Takatsuki and Ibaraki cities in Osaka Prefecture.
During construction of Kyoto Imperial University's seismic observatory in 1934, workers discovered this tomb containing a lacquered sarcophagus with mummified remains.
The burial structure represents the architectural style of the Asuka period, featuring a stone chamber, dry moat, and traditional cylindrical haniwa formations.
Visitors can reach the National Historic Site, designated in 1983, by taking a taxi from either Settsu-Tonda Station or Takatsuki Station on the JR line.
The tomb contained an exceptionally preserved mummy of a man in his sixties, complete with hair and clothing, protected within a multilayered lacquered sarcophagus.
