Takasagocho

Takasagocho is an industrial district in southern Hyogo Prefecture that spans a large area and is characterized primarily by processing plants and manufacturing facilities. The area is served by several transportation hubs that connect various parts of the region.

The area contains shell middens from the Jomon period and developed as a fishing port during the Heian period with notable salt production. These traditions were later replaced by the establishment of steel manufacturing and chemical processing in the 20th century.

The area shows traditional building styles within the Takasago District Historical Building Preservation Zone. Visitors can see how local construction techniques were applied in the structures that remain today.

The area is well connected via the JR West Sanyo Main Line and National Routes 2 and 250, offering good transportation access. Keep in mind that this is primarily a functional industrial and business zone, so it is wise to check in advance which areas are open to visitors.

The area was once the region's salt production center that shaped people's lives for centuries. This economic foundation was gradually displaced by heavy industry, resulting in a complete transformation of the urban landscape and local economy.
