Omoshiroyama Signal Station is a railway facility inside the Senzan Tunnel in Yamagata Prefecture. It controls train traffic passing through this mountain route and forms part of the larger Senzan Line system that connects regions through mountainous terrain.
The signal station opened in 1937 as part of railway development connecting Sendai and Yamagata. In 1985 it received modern automated signaling systems that replaced manual operations.
The signal station forms part of the Senzan Line Railway Facilities Group, recognized by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers for its engineering heritage.
This facility is located deep within the tunnel and is not open to public visits. Travelers can ride the Senzan Line itself to experience the mountain route and see the landscape it passes through.
The facility underwent modernization in 1985 with the implementation of automatic blocking and Centralized Traffic Control systems, leading to the removal of manual signal operations.
