長尾雞中心

The Nagao Chicken Center maintains and studies Japanese Long-tailed chickens, featuring multiple enclosures where visitors can observe these birds in natural settings.

The center started its operations in the late 20th century to preserve the Japanese Long-tailed chicken breed, which has existed in Japan for over 400 years.

Japanese Long-tailed chickens carry deep meaning in Japanese farming traditions, appearing in numerous agricultural festivals and regional ceremonies throughout Ehime Prefecture.

Visitors can reach the center by taking a local bus from Matsuyama Station to the Nagao district, with guided tours available in Japanese from Tuesday through Sunday.

The facility houses chickens with tail feathers reaching lengths of up to 12 meters, requiring special elevated perches and dedicated care systems.
