石見寺

Stone River Temple stands on the Shikoku pilgrimage circuit and is known for its spectacular ceiling decorated with 600 square paintings throughout the main hall. These artworks blend Buddhist imagery, natural elements, and modern artistic references into a cohesive visual experience.

The temple underwent major renovations in 1978 when artists from across Japan contributed contemporary artworks to the space. This renovation brought a distinctly modern artistic dimension to the traditionally religious setting.

The temple presents water meditation sessions in the Shimanto River from May to September, guided by Buddhist priests who provide individual attention.

The site is easily accessible by public transportation or car, with convenient parking available near the entrance. The location makes it simple for visitors to arrive and depart without difficulty.

Within the temple grounds stands a room called SHETA's Room, featuring walls covered entirely in bright pop art patterns of flowers and hearts. This space demonstrates how the temple embraces unconventional artistic expression alongside its spiritual purpose.
