Hozo-ji, Buddhist temple in Nakamura-ku, Japan

The temple building stands on Urateramachi-dori Avenue, featuring traditional Japanese Buddhist architecture with wooden structures and ornate decorative elements throughout its grounds.

Established in 1436 by Myoshu-shonin, Hozo-ji flourished during the Muromachi era as Kishu Minami Honzan of Jodo Shu Seizan-ha, overseeing 25 subsidiary temples.

The temple maintains connections to artist Ito Jakuchu from the Edo period, offering visitors a seal book containing distinctive designs created by this notable painter.

The temple welcomes visitors from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily except Mondays, with cash-only payments accepted for temple services and seal collecting.

During the 1854 tsunami, the temple served as a refuge for local residents and functioned as a rice storage facility for disaster relief efforts.
