Hiroshima Orizuru Tower, Observation tower in Ōtemachi, Hiroshima, Japan
Hiroshima Orizuru Tower is a 50-meter structure with a rooftop observation deck overlooking the A-Bomb Dome and Peace Memorial Park. The building houses an interactive multimedia zone in its upper floors, a street-level cafe, and a souvenir shop offering local products.
The structure opened to visitors in 2016 on the site of a 1978 office building that previously occupied the location. This transformation marked an important expansion of the memorial spaces surrounding the Peace Memorial Park.
The Orizuru Square on the 12th floor invites visitors to fold paper cranes and contribute them to the Orizuru Wall, creating a collective display of wishes.
The late afternoon offers the best light for viewing the memorial sites from the observation deck. The building is fully accessible with elevators reaching all levels, including the rooftop observation area.
The observation deck was constructed using Japanese cypress and cedar wood, allowing visitors to feel the outdoor air while taking in the views. This material choice connects natural surroundings with the urban vista.
