Motomachi Cred, Skyscraper and building complex in Motomachi, Japan
Motomachi Credo is a modern office and retail complex rising 35 floors above ground in Motomachi, Hiroshima. It combines commercial office space with shopping areas, directly connecting to the adjacent Hiroshima Sogo department store.
The complex was completed in 1994 as a collaborative effort by three major construction companies responding to demand for modern office and retail space in Hiroshima. Its completion marked an important moment in the city's commercial development during the 1990s expansion.
The facade reflects design principles typical of 1990s Japanese office buildings, where international modernism meets local design language. Walking around it, you can see how this approach shaped the commercial districts that followed.
The complex is easy to navigate with entrances at multiple levels connecting different functional areas. Visitors can move between office zones and retail sections smoothly, and the direct link to the department store provides additional shelter during bad weather.
The building received the Good Design Award for its architectural approach, recognizing Japanese innovation in modern office design. This recognition reflects its role in shaping the architectural standards of the city's commercial development.
